Workshops with Nina Wise give you the physical and spiritual tools to translate your inner life into theater. Everyone has a story to tell. But few of us have the opportunity to express ourselves freely in a safe and supportive environment. What makes Nina’s workshops unique is her emphasis on the integration of body, mind and spirit.

Stories reside in the body, so we begin by moving from our center, giving voice and gesture to our private characters and realities. Unbounded self-expression is remarkably satisfying–for the heart, the mind, the soul, and the body.

The sessions include relaxation, meditation, movement, singing, storytelling, and theater games. Expect to surprise yourself, to become more playful and at ease before an audience, and to leave with an enhanced sense of well-being in both your personal and creative lives.

To register for Motion Theater workshops, we request you send a deposit to hold your space in the class. Deposits are refundable in full (less 15% processing fee) up to two weeks before the workshop. After that, if you choose to not attend the workshop, you can apply the balance (less 15% processing fee) to a workshop in the future within one year. If you drop out of a workshop after attending the first two classes, no refunds will be available.

Motion Theater in Esalen:
A Big New Free Happy Unusual Life

Friday to Friday
April, 15 - 20
Esalen Institute
Big Sur, CA

This improvisation workshop in Motion Theater® allows the creativity that resides within us to have a voice. We begin with movement—slow stretches to open the body. We open the voice with playful classical- and jazz-based exercises. We meditate to calm the heart, dance to free the spirit, find a way to effortlessly compose with language.

This workshop is like dreaming on your feet. Expect to surprise yourself and to become more playful and at ease before an audience. You might even find that the sense of wellbeing achieved during the workshop not only expands your creative abilities but also enhances your experience of daily life.

Spontaneous Zen: A Workshop in Meditation and Autobiographical Improvisation

with Nina Wise and Jeremy Levie

June 10 - 15, 2012
Tassajara Zen Center
Monterey, CA

Suzuki Roshi once said that we practice sitting to be “ready for anything.” In Nina’s improvisation classes, we’ll learn practices that allow the creativity that resides within us to have a voice, both through movement and language. In meditation, we’ll cultivate openness, receptivity and fearlessness, particularly the courage and clarity to express what needs to be expressed. This workshop will provide a safe space to take up this transformative work of self-discovery and self-expression.

Using yoga, sounding, movement, and other exercises, we’ll cultivate our capacity to tell our story and bring to life what is often unnoticed or unacknowledged, finding the freedom that comes from expressing ourselves through our bodies and not just words.
